Gameplay
From FarCry 2 Wiki
- The game's producer, Louis-Pierre Pharand, in late August revealed that the game's single player campaign will be over eighty hours (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/256466.html)
- There will be over 50 square kilometers of open African landscape to explore. This also means that there are no "levels" in Far Cry 2. The 50 square kilometer map consists of the entire game. Preliminary image of Map area: http://www.freewebs.com/sergeantyork/Map.png
- Only roughly 25 square kilometers of landscape are open to explore at the beginning of the game. The other half of the landscape will open up after 12 missions have been completed.
- There will be real-time story telling.
- The AI is not scripted and will have realistic idle behaviors.
- As you play, there will be a real time day and night cycle. This will also affect the enemy AI depending on the time of day. An example would be as night falls, the AI would go to sleep, just like a real person would.
- The game gives you the ability to fast forward time by sleeping. This is so that you are able to carry out the missions at night if you want to.
- There will be safehouses scattered all over the map so you can pick up weapons or go to sleep to speed up time.
- There will be minimal in-game interface for maximum immersion.
- You will actually be able to effect your own morale, your enemies morale and your infamy of how villagers see you. This is affected by how many people you kill in certain missions. If your infamy is too high, you will not be allowed into certain villages.
- Over time, your weapons will erode and malfunction if not maintained properly. They will also jam if not used properly like real weapons would.
- You will also be able to upgrade your weapons. More information about that will be found here.
- You will be able to choose what avatar you play with.
- There will be a high level of destructability. Shacks, trees, plants, ext. will be able to be destroyed. This will also effect gameplay choices. For example, if you destroy a shack that an enemy AI is in, the AI will die from the shack collapsing over it.
- Far Cry 2 will be compatible with Philips' amBX's environmental immersion system. The system uses fans, special lights and rumble in conjunction with on-screen actions in a effort to immerse the user in the gaming experience.
- You will not be able to kill civilians in the villages. The game will remove your weapons upon entering a village so you don't kill them, but you will not lose your weapons.
- Diamonds are the main source of money. You use them to buy medicine for your malaria and upgrades for your weapons.
- You will be able to go from standing to crouch and vice versa but you will not be able to go prone.

Mercenaries
An important factor in Far Cry 2 is the role of befriended mercenaries. These are the nine people that weren't chosen as the main character, plus 3 female characters. The relations with them are dynamic: if you annoy them, they won’t help you. If you kill them, they stay dead for the rest of the game. If you can create a long lasting bond between you and them, they can be very useful. If you die one of the "buddies" will come in, patch you up, and give you their sidearm.
Health System
Throughout the game, you will be infected with malaria. To combat the malaria in your body, you must get medicine to combat it's symptoms or else you will die. One of the symptoms of malaria is becoming delusional. To get the medicine you will have to procure the medicine from an underground organization of priests and doctors that is helping civilians escape the country.
You use syringes to stay at maximum health and they incorporate regenerative elements. Above the health bar there is a display showing the number of syringes that you have. The health bar itself, one of the few HUD elements in the game which pops up onscreen when you take damage, is a series of small segments. If you're shot, part of the color filling a segment will be depleted. As long as the entire segment isn't emptied of color, you can regenerate that segment. If you take enough damage where a segment is fully emptied and the color bar recedes into another segment, then you need to use a syringe to fill everything back up; health regeneration doesn't continue across segments. With enough punishment your health can recede into the red zone where you'll start bleeding, at which point you'll need to perform a little self-surgery to staunch the wound and keep yourself in the fight. There will be 36 animations for this in the game.

Map System
In the original Far Cry, there was a compass that appeared on the screen that directed the player to waypoints. In Far Cry 2, there will be no compass that directs the player to waypoints. Instead of a compass that directs the player's movements to waypoints, there will be a paper map that the player must consult to find the mission points. The more the player explores, the more that is revealed on the map. By exploring, if a vehicle is found, then that vehicle can be noted on the map. There will be a pocket compass that the player will have to help orient the map.
